DoDAF for Defense and Complex Systems

The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) provides viewpoints (operational, capability, systems, standards, etc.) for describing mission threads, systems-of-systems, and standards compliance. Defense contractors and joint programs use DoDAF products in technical reviews and milestone decisions.

Successful DoDAF efforts tie views to decisions: operational scenarios inform requirements; systems views inform interface control; standards views inform platform consolidation. Avoid generating full viewsets without a decision calendar—reviewers will disengage.

Repositories such as Sparx EA with DoDAF MDGs or HOPEX support structured metamodels. Align tool choice with classification, authoring workforce, and integration to requirements and test evidence.

What is TOGAF?

TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) is a widely adopted standard for developing and governing Enterprise Architecture. It provides methods, tools, and vocabulary—most notably the Architecture Development Method (ADM)—to help organizations design, plan, implement, and sustain architecture at enterprise scale.
