TOGAF

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) provides a method, content meta-model, and governance guidance for developing and maintaining enterprise architecture. Its Architecture Development Method (ADM) defines a cyclical process from vision through migration planning and change management. TOGAF is intentionally adaptable—organizations tailor phases, deliverables, and repositories to their context.

In Practice

Larkinized LLC uses TOGAF as a structural backbone rather than a rigid checklist, aligning ADM phases to client governance cadence and portfolio cycles. Certification builds common vocabulary, but value comes from consistent application of views, viewpoints, and work packages. TOGAF pairs naturally with ArchiMate for modeling and with organization-specific principle catalogs.

Example

A financial services firm adapts TOGAF Phase E (Opportunities and Solutions) to prioritize cloud migration work packages ranked by regulatory risk reduction.
