Business Capability Map

A business capability map arranges capabilities in logical groupings—often two or three levels—showing what the enterprise must excel at to execute strategy. Maps may overlay maturity, investment, or risk scores for prioritization. They are foundational artifacts for business architecture and portfolio dialogue.

In Practice

Larkinized LLC facilitates capability mapping workshops with executives to validate scope and naming before tool modeling. Maps integrate with ArchiMate or EA tools for traceability to applications and value streams. Refresh maps when major acquisitions or market entries occur.

Example

A capability map for insurance groups underwriting, policy administration, and claims under a customer lifecycle lens.
