DoDAF
The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) defines a set of viewpoints—Operational, Systems, Services, Data, Project, Standards, and others—for documenting architecture of systems and enterprises. Models such as OV-5 activity diagrams and SV-1 interface descriptions support analysis and acquisition decisions. DoDAF 2.x focuses on data-centric exchange rather than rigid diagram mandates.
In Practice
Defense and aerospace programs use DoDAF to satisfy acquisition and interoperability requirements while coordinating contractors and government stakeholders. Larkinized LLC tailors viewpoint selection to the decision at hand, avoiding model proliferation. DoDAF can coexist with TOGAF for enterprise-wide planning outside program boundaries.
Example
A program produces an SV-10c event trace to validate timing constraints before integrating a sensor platform with command systems.
