ADM
The Architecture Development Method (ADM) is a nine-phase cycle—Preliminary plus Phases A through H—that guides architecture engagement from framing through implementation governance. Each phase produces specific outputs such as the architecture vision, gap analysis, and migration plan. ADM iterations can run at enterprise, segment, or project scope.
In Practice
Practitioners rarely execute every ADM phase linearly on every initiative; Larkinized LLC right-sizes the cycle to decision urgency and organizational maturity. Linking ADM outputs to portfolio management and ARB gates ensures architecture work informs funding. Requirements management and stakeholder engagement thread through all phases.
Example
During Phase F (Migration Planning), an EA team bundles application rationalization initiatives into work packages sequenced across fiscal years.
